The plateau of Assy strikes with its spaciousness and pacification. The plateau is located at an altitude of 2600 meters above sea level in the valley of the Assy River — 100 km east of Almaty. This place is known since ancient times as a summer pasture of nomadic tribes. At the top of the plateau, an astrophysical observatory is built, with one of the world’s largest telescopes. The route begins with a car drive to the Turgen gorge. Once we get to the plateau the first stop is at the Observatory of Assy and make an easy trek in the gorge of Kara Arsha. On the way back it’s a great chance to watch the sunset at the Observatory.
