Strikingly vast and peaceful, plateau of Assy is located at an altitude of 2600 meters above the sea level in the valley of Assy River 100 km east of Almaty. This place has been known since ancient times as a summer pasture of nomadic tribes. At the top of the plateau, an astrophysical observatory is located, which features one of the world's largest telescopes. The route begins with a car ride to Turgen gorge. Once you get to the plateau you stop at the Observatory and make an easy trek in the gorge of Kara Arsha. On the way back you will have a great chance to watch sunset at the Observatory.
